TCU was an unlikely national championship contender from 2009 to 2011, but it fell out of the BCS picture in a big way last season, its first as a member of the Big 12. The Horned Frogs mediocre finish has made them a 2014 national championship long shot in the eyes of the odds makers. Recently released 2014 BCS Championship Odds have TCU listed as a +6500 moneyline play to win the national title next year.

TCU’s transition to the Big 12 was a rocky one as the Horned Frogs crossed the finish line at 7-6 following a 17-16 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl loss to Michigan State. Coming into the season, TCU had won 11 or more games four straight years and it even posted an unblemished 13-0 record in 2010.

If Head Coach Gary Patterson’s track record is any indication, the Horned Frogs should bounce back next season. TCU is 116-36 under Patterson’s watch and it has never had back to back single win seasons with the Kansas State grad at the helm.

Of course, Patterson has never had to recover from a down season while a member of the Big 12 so the dynamic will certainly be different for the coach and his players.
