TCU has yet to play in a BCS National Championship, but it has been on the verge of doing so at least a couple of times over the past three seasons. The odds makers see the national title as a long shot for the Horned Frogs this season, though, with the latest 2013 BCS National Championship Odds sitting at 66-1. In fact, a run at the championship in the school’s new conference, the Big 12, seems improbable. TCU is listed at 11-2 odds to win the Big 12 Championship, making it the third pick behind perennial favorites Oklahoma and Texas.
When an 11-2 record serves as the worst finish in three seasons, things are probably going well for a program. That would be an understatement in regard to the Horned Frogs, who are 67-13 overall and 6-1 in bowl games since 2005. Yes, Head Coach Gary Patterson has it rolling at TCU, but a bigger challenge awaits the team this season.
The Horned Frogs bring just 13 starters back from last season’s Poinsettia Bowl winner and their schedule experiences a major upgrade in competition with the switch to the Big 12. TCU, which enjoyed the occasional ‘week off’ playing in the Mountain West, does not catch a break from October 13th on, facing Baylor, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Kansas State, Texas, and Oklahoma. The Horned Frogs are already being listed as an underdog in four of those games, making the Under 8.5 wins look pretty appealing.
