Sunday Night Baseball Tampa Bay Rays vs Detroit Tigers Start Time, Odds, Free Picks

Sunday night baseball and we will see the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Detroit Tigers in game 4 of their 4 game series from Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. First pitch is scheduled for a 8:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on ESPN.

Current Odds

Tampa Bay     -118
Detroit           +108

Over/ Under: 7.5 U -115

Analysis: The Tampa Rays have not had a good year to this point in the season, but they may have turned the corner as they come in playing better ball of late, winning 9 of their last 11 games. The Rays have been pretty sorry on offense this year, ranking 24th in the league in scoring (3.82 rpg), 18th in hitting (.249) and 22nd in homers (73). The pitching for the Rays has been average at best as they rank 16th in ERA (3.85) and 12th in WHIP (1.26). They are, however, 1st in the league in Ks with (784). Taking the hill for Tampa Bay will be David Price, who is 7-7 with a 3.50 ERA overall, while on the road he is 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA. David is 2-0 with a 2.19 ERa in 2 career starts at Comerica.

Detroit lost the last 2 games in this series, but still they have been playing very well of late, as they have won 12 of their last 16 games, which now has them with a 4 game lead over the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central. The Tigers have been a very good offensive team this year, ranking 4th in the league in scoring (4.65), 2nd in hitting (.276) and 5th in homers (92). Very solid numbers all around for the Tigers. The pitching has been pretty weak, as they come in ranked 23rd in the league in ERA (4.01) and 18th in WHIP (1.31). Getting the ball for Detroit tonight will be Rick Porcello, who is 11-4 with a 3.12 ERA on the year overall, while at home he is 4-2 with a 3.14 ERA. Rick is 2-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 5 career starts vs the Rays.

Pick: Going with the Tigers here. Both team came into this series hot, but so far the Rays have had the better time of it, taking 2 of the 3 played so far. Tonight I look for Detroit to even up the series. Rick Porcello is not the same pitcher that we loved to fade the last few years, as he comes in with an 11-4 mark and a 3.12 ERA on the year and he also has a 2.73 ERA in 5 career starts vs the Rays. David Price has pitched very well this year, but the Tigers hit lefties at a .307 clip and score 5.62 rp/9 off of them at home. Look for Detroit to take this one.
