Sunday Night Baseball Los Angeles Dodgers vs St Louis Cardinals

Sunday night baseball and we will see the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the St Louis Cardinals in game 3 of their 3 game series from Busch Stadium in St Louis, Missouri. First pitch is scheduled for an 8:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on ESPN.

Current Odds

Los Angeles      -195
St Louis            +168

Over/ Under: 6.5 U -120

Analysis: The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost the first two games of this series and now find themselves 1 game behind the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. The Dodgers have been solid on the road this year, going 29-21 away from home, but they are 17-40 in their last 57 games in St Louis. The Dodgers have been a decent offensive team this year, as they come in ranked 13th in scoring (4.12 rpg), 10th in hitting (.256), 23rd in homers (76) and 1st in stolen bases (88). The pitching for the Dodgers has been solid, as they come in ranked 5th in ERA (3.31), 7th in WHIP (1.22) and 3rd in quality starts (62). Getting the ball for the Dodgers tonight will be Clayton Kershaw, who is 11-2 on the year win a skinny 1.78 ERA on the year overall, while on the road he has gone 6-1 with a 1.91 ERA. Clayton is 5-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 13 career starts vs the Cardinals.

The St Louis Cardinals have now won won 10 of their last 14 games and thanks to the collapse of the Brewers they are now tied with them in the NL Central race. St Louis is a solid 29-20 at home this year. The Cardinals have been an awful offensive team this year, ranking 29th in scoring (3.74 rpg), 15th in hitting (.252) and 29th in homers (62). The pitching has been what has kept them around, as they are 8th in ERA (3.39) and 8th in WHIP (1.23). Getting the ball for the Cardinals will be Carlos Martinez, who is 2-4 with a 4.43 ERA on the year overall, while at home he is 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA. Carlos started a game vs the Dodgers last week and allowed 1 ER in 4.1 innings of work, but also allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in the game. The Cards won the game 3-1 but he got a no decision.

Pick:   Going with the Dodgers on the RL here. Clayton Keshaw is 11-2 on the year with a 1.78 ERA, including a 1.91 ERA on the road. In his 6 road wins this year the Dodgers have won each game by at least 2 runs, while 9 of his 11 wins overall have come by at least 2 runs. The Dodgers offense has been stymied in the first 2 games of this series, but I see them breaking out here vs Carlos Martinez, who has struggle this year, with a 4.43 ERA. He did allow just 1 ER in his lone start vs the Dodgers, but also allowed 9 men on base in just 4.1 innings of work. I see LA salvaging a game in this series by at least 3 runs.
