Sunday NFL Football New Orleans Saints at Oakland Raiders: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

A contest between teams in opposite conferences takes place in Sunday NFL Football as the New Orleans Saints travel to take on the Oakland Raiders. The game is scheduled for a 4:05 pm start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have the Saints favored by 4.5 points.

Interesting game here today as one of the marquee late games in the NFL. We're going to be honest with you and tell you that we actually like the Raiders in this matchup. Sure, we backed New Orleans last week and were one of the few that suggested you take the Saints to beat Atlanta. But we're not here to brag. Yet, we are going to suggest fading the Saints in this one.

We know they've won four out of their last five games overall and seem to have put back in the potential contenders in the NFC. Yet, we think they take a step back after today's game in Oakland. Drew Brees threw for 3 TDs in last week's win over the Falcons and he's now thrown for 25 touchdowns on the season. However, he has been prone to make the mistake this year, tossing nine interceptions as well.

One of the big reasons we are fading New Orleans is the schedule. Obviously we know they are coming off an emotional win over Atlanta last week, but also note they have to travel back home to take on San Francisco next week. Look ahead spot with the lowly Raiders this week? Potentially.

What's really been awful for the Saints has been the defense. They've surrendered 29 points per game on average during their last 11 games overall and they've given up at least 24 points in every single game this season. Not good. They're also on pace to give up the most yards of any team in NFL history.

Oakland, on the other hand, has a decent defense but a defense that has also had some issues this year. They gave up 55 points last week to the Ravens and got embarrassed. Add to that the Raiders have given up back to back games of more than 40 points for the first time since 1961. How are they even close to being anything but a double digit home dog here today? Oakland has won their last seven games as a home underdog when they lost the week before on the field and against the spread.

Yes, the more we look at this game the more we see the proverbial "trap game." The Saints are going to need a complete "A" effort from their entire team in order to leave California with a win.

Oakland just seems very easy to overlook in this game, yet they are playing at home and getting points. New Orleans is going to give up a lot of yards and Darren McFadden will gladly take to the field with that. They're also second to last in both passing and rushing yards allowed this season. Second to last. Brees is going to have a monster game in order to out-score the Raiders today.
