The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is in the Valley of the Sun today for the ninth running of the Subway Fresh Fit 500. The 312 lap race (measured in kilometers instead of miles), which will take place at the one-mile Phoenix International Raceway, has a scheduled start time of 3:00pm ET; it will be broadcast live on FOX. The latest Subway Fresh Fit 500 Odds have last week’s Daytona 500 winner and five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson listed as a +500 favorite to win today’s race. Kyle Busch, who will start next to Johnson in row two, is also drawing +500 odds ($100 wins $500). Defending Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski and Kasey Kahne are third picks at +800 odds apiece.
Jimmie Johnson (+500 to win or +150 Top Three Finish): Johnson endured a whirlwind week following his second career Daytona 500 victory, but tired or no, his past performance at Phoenix International Raceway makes his a strong contender today. Johnson has one win and six top five finishes in eight Subway Fresh Fit 500 appearances and he has four wins and 12 top five results in 19 career runs at Phoenix International.
Kyle Busch (+500 to win or +150 Top Three Finish): Busch has not been as prolific as Johnson in the Subway Fresh Fit 500; however, he has produced six top 10 finishes in the eight races. Busch owns one win and three top five finishes in 16 appearances at Phoenix International Raceway.
Other Considerations: Jeff Gordon is a two time Subway Fresh Fit 500 winner (2007, 2011) and Mark Martin, who won the pole for this weekend's race, won the event in 2009. Gordon is drawing +1200 odds to win while Martin is a +1000 play.
