SEC College Football Mississippi State Bulldogs at Ole Miss Rebels Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Heisman Trophy on the Line for Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott vs. Alabama

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels meet up for the Egg Bowl in SEC College Football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS. Currently the odds for the game have the Bulldogs listed as the favorite to win by around a field goal.

The Egg Bowl is always a fun one to watch. This year it carries some national title implications as Mississippi State is still ranked inside the college football playoff top four. A win over the arch rival Rebels could put them in the final four for good, even if they don't find a way into the SEC championship game. This could be the biggest Egg Bowl in decades and Dan Mullen has been able to pick up four wins in his five previous games against the Rebels. The home team, though, has won nine of the last 10 games in this rivalry.

This year's game will be the first time since 1999 that both teams are ranked — it's also just the third time the last 57 years. Dak Prescott is one of the Heisman contenders this season as he has led the Bulldogs to their current 10-1 mark overall. Prescott has accounted for 35 touchdowns to date with better than 3,600 yards of total offense as well. He could have some troubles against an Ole Miss defense that is very good.

Opponents this season have scored just 13.5 points per game against the Rebels this season, which is the lowest number of points any team in the country is giving up. Arkansas and Auburn have actually both put up at least 30 points on Ole Miss this season, which is driving the number up. Somehow Arkansas dominated the Rebels on the scoreboard last week and Ole Miss can't allow that to happen again in this one. Ole Miss actually had an advantage in yardage, but turned it over six times.

The Bulldogs come in off a 51-0 drubbing of Vanderbilt. They're averaging 39 points per game this season while allowing opponents only 18.4 per contest. Outside of the loss to Alabama the Bulldogs have looked in control in every game this season, but playing against Bo Wallace and the Rebels is going to be a tough one. Wallace has the stigma of being a gunslinger and forcing the football where it doesn't need to go sometimes as he's tossed 10 picks. He has to play better here.

It's a rivalry game, both teams have good defenses and quarterbacks that can pitch it around the yard. Do not be surprised if Ole Miss finds a way to win this game because of their defense.

Free Pick: Mississippi State 21, Ole Miss 20
