When these two heated rivals hooked up in a week two clash at CenturyLink Field, the Seahawks embarrassed the 49ers 29-3.
San Francisco turned the ball over five times, managed just 12 first downs, and amassed just 207 total yards in the double digit loss. Colin Kaepernick had an especially difficult time in the divisional tilt, completing just 13-of-28 passes for 127 yards and three interceptions.
The loss marked Seattle's second consecutive dominating performance against San Francisco as it defeated the 49ers 42-13 at CenturyLink Field last season.
However, the Niners have won four straight against the Seahawks at Candlestick, including last year's game, which saw Alex Smith lead San Francisco to a 13-6 victory.
San Francisco's defense has also been hard on the Seahawks offense in two of the last three meetings between the two rivals. The 49ers yielded just 13 first downs and 251 total yards in the aforementioned win at Candlestick and they held the Seahawks to 290 yards and a 4.1 yards per play average in the clash at Candlestick.
The Niners will probably need a similar defensive effort Sunday afternoon if they are to halt the Seahawks momentum. Seattle has won seven straight games and they won their last three by an average of 23.7 points per game.
San Francisco, a winner in seven of its last nine games, does have two home losses this season, but it is 3-1 in its last four home outings. The 49ers allowed an average of 11.5 points per contest in those four games.
Notable Trends: The Niners are 7-2-1 against the spread and 8-2 straight up in their last 10 games as a home favorite with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points.
