Saturday Night Baseball Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Diego Padres Betting Odds, Free Pick

Saturday night baseball and I will have a Free Pick in the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres, which will be played at Petco Park in San Diego. First pitch is scheduled for an 8:40 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Betting Odds

Dodgers          -118
Padres            +108

Over/ Under: 7 U -130

This is game 2 of a 3 game series between these NL West rivals. The Dodgers took game 1 last night by a 3-0 score and are now 10-6 on the year overall, but just 2-5 away from home. The Padres are now 10-8 overall, including 5-3 a home.

The Dodgers come in ranked 10th in scoring (4.60 rpg), 5th in hitting (.271) and 4th in homers (20), while on the mound they are 11th in ERA (3.48) and 9th in WHIP (1.19). The Dodgers have gone 42-18 in their last 60 vs. the National League West, but just 2-7 in their last 9 road games.

The Padres have surprisingly been one of the best offensive teams in the league as they rank 6th in scoring (5.00 rpg), 4th in hitting (.279) and 9th in homers (16), while on the mound they are 5th in ERA (3.10) and 15th in WHIP (1.28). San Diego has gone 22-6 in their last 28 home games vs. a right-handed starter, but just 2-8 in Kennedy's last 10 starts with the total set at 7.0-8.5

Getting the ball tonight for the Dodgers will be Brandon McCarthy, who is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 3 starts this year. Brandon has had good success vs the Padres in his career, going 5-1 with a 2.77 ERA in 7 starts vs them, while he has gone 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 3 career starts at Petco.

Getting the ball for the Pads tonight will be Ian Kennedy, who made one start this year, last just 2.1 inning before getting injured and landing on the DL. Ian has not had good success in his career vs the Dodgers, going 5-7 with a 4.08 ERA in 17 starts vs them, but he has pitched well in this park in his career, going 13-8 with a 3.26 ERA in 30 starts here.

Pick:  Going with the under in this game again. Last night just 3 runs were scored and I can almost see the same amount for this one. Neither offense is strong enough right now to score many runs in this park and both starters have pitched well in Petco of late. Last year Brandon faced the Padres twice here and allowed just 1 ER in the two games, while Ian has a 3.17 ERA in his last 5 starts here. Let's also note that the Under is 13-3 the last 16 games between these teams at Petco. Another night game in San Diego that shouldn't yield many runs.
