Major League Baseball Betting Odds Boston Red Sox vs Kansas City Royals Free Pick

Major League Baseball on Saturday night and we will see the Boston Red Sox take on the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Free Pick to follow. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Betting Odds

Boston                +115
Kansas City         -125

Over/ Under: 8 O -120

This is game 2 of a 3 game series between these American League foes. The Sox took game one of this series as their offense woke up some in the 7-3 win. Boston has now won 3 of their last 4 games, but still are 9 games behind the Blue Jays and in last place in the AL East. Despite losing last night's game, the Royals still have the best record in the AL and have a 2.5 game lead over the Minnesota Twins and they have been very solid at home where they are 21-12 on the year.

The Red Sox rank 22nd in scoring (3.94 rpg), 15th in hitting (.252) and 13th in homers (64), while on the mound they are 29th in ERA (4.45) and 24th in WHIP (1.34). Kansas City ranks 8th in scoring (4.41 rpg), 1st in hitting (.273) and 27th in homers (49), while on the mound they are 5th in ERA (3.40) and 10th in WHIP (1.22).

Getting the ball for the Red Sox today will be Rick Porcello, who has gone 4-7 with a 5.29 ERA in 13 starts this year, while on the road he has gone 1-3 with a 5.75 ERA. Rick is 8-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 19 career starts vs the Royals, while at Kauffman Stadium he is 6-3 with a 3.94 ERA in 11 starts.

Taking the hill for the Royals today will be Edinson Volquez, who is 6-4 with a 3.10 ERA overall this year, while at home he has gone 4-2 with a 2.76 ERA. Edinson has 2 career starts vs the Red Sox and he is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA in those starts

Pick: I will look at the Royals in this one. Rick Procello has not been the pitcher that the Red Sox have hoped he would be and he has really struggled on the road, where he is 1-3 with a 5.75 ERA so far. He does have nice numbers at Kauffman stadium, but this is a different and better KC team than he is used to facing, plus he was also better in previous seasons. The Sox scored 7 runs last night, but still this is an inconsistent offense and they will be taking on Edinson Volquez, who has pitched very well at home this year. I look for the Royals to bounce back from last night's loss.

Pro handicappers Teddy Covers and Steve Fezzik have a bone to pick with MLB Commisioner Bud Selig, who decided the All-Star exhibition game will determine World Series home field advantage. With Royals fans currently voting seven Kansas City players into the starting line up of the American League team, this popularity-based roster of an exhibition game which has way too much impact on the most important baseball series of the year.
