Betting Odds
Mariners +145
Angels -155
Over/ Under: 7 O -130
This is game 2 of a 3 game series between these American League foes. The Halos are not winning the game that they should, which is not allowing them to catch a Houston team that is floundering a bit right now. Last night the Angels lost by a 3-1 score to a very mediocre Seattle squad. The Halos are now back to .500 for the year and they are currently 5 games behind division leading Houston. Seattle has not had the start they were looking for, as they are 6 games under .500 and in last place in the AL West.
The Mariners rank 28th in scoring (3.40 rpg), 30th in hitting (.231) and 9th in homers (74), while on the mound they are 15th in ERA (3.82) and 12th in WHIP (1.27). Los Angeles ranks 23rd in scoring (3.95 rpg), 23rd in hitting (.242) and 8th in homers (74), while on the mound they are 14th in ERA (3.81) and 7th in WHIP (1.22).
Getting the ball for Seattle tonight will be J.A. Happ, who is 3-4 with a 3.78 ERA in 14 starts this year, while on the road he has gone 1-2 with a 5.86 ERA in 7 starts. Happ doesn't have good numbers vs the Halos, going 0-3 with a 9.82 ERA in 3 starts vs them in his career.
Toeing the rubber for the Los Angeles tonight will be Garrett Richards, who is 7-5 with a 3.66 ERA on the year, while at home he has gone 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA. Richards is 1-0 with an 0.81 ERA in his last 3 starts vs the Mariners.
Pick: I will look for the Angels to bounce back after last night's tough loss in which the offense just let them down. Garrett richards has been sold for the Halos this year, especially at home, where he is 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA, plus he is 1-0 with an 0.81 ERA in 3 career starts vs the Mariners. JA Happ has struggled on the road this year with a 5.86 ERA and that should help this Angel offense get going. Take the Halos to bounce back tonight.

In Defense of Pete Rose
A recent ESPN Outside the Lines piece revealed Pete Rose did more than just bet on baseball--he bet on the Cincinnati Reds aka the Big Red Machine during hist stint as player/manager. Since Rose never bet against his baseball team, pro bettors Teddy Covers and Steve Fezzik come to his defense, pointing out he never fixed games like, say, the Chicago Black Sox did. Comparing to other athletes who bet on sports, his lifetime ban from baseball and the Hall of Fame seems pretty harsh compared to the one-year ban of football player Alex Karas. In short, the sports world is being way too harsh on one of the great players of the game.
