Tulsa opened its season with a 23-38 road loss at Iowa State, but that was the last time the team tasted defeat. The Golden Hurricane, who sit atop the Conference USA West standings with a 5-0 league record, ride a seven game win streak into today’s meeting with the Razorbacks.
Tulsa has hardly faced what one might label a grueling schedule with Fresno State playing the role of its most capable victim; however, it has remained near perfect despite close calls against the aforementioned Bulldogs and Rice.
Arkansas, despite its dismal play for the majority of the 2012 season, will serve as the Golden Hurricane’s most difficult challenge since they squared off against the Cyclones in week one.
The Razorbacks have played better of late anyway, winning two out of their last three games. Arkansas narrowly missed a third consecutive victory last Saturday as Ole Miss kicked a game winning field goal in the final seconds of regulation to escape Little Rock with a 30-27 win.
The Razorbacks have been completely unreliable as a favorite this season, though, posting a 1-4 record against the spread when giving points. Still, Arkansas, which has won its last 17 meetings with Tulsa, should have success throwing the ball (ranked 17th in the FBS in passing) against the Golden Hurricane’s leaky secondary (ranked 99th in pass defense, giving up an average of 261.6 yards per game through the air).
