College Football Betting Odds South Carolina Gamecocks vs Clemson Tigers Free Pick

Saturday college football and we will see the South Carolina Gamecocks take on the Clemson Tigers at Clemson Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN. Current Vegas odds have Clemson listed as 7 point favorites, while the total is set at 54.

Analysis:  The South Carolina Gamecocks have not had he year they were expecting, as they come into this game at 6-5 on the year overall, which includes a poor 3-5 mark in the SEC. The Gamecocks are 9-3 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 games following a SU win of more than 20 points, plus 5-0 ATS the last 5 in the series. South Carolina has been a good offensive squad this year, ranking 29th in total yards, 21st in passing, 52nd in rushing and 33rd in scoring (34.8 ppg). The defense is where this team has had their issues this year, ranking 89th in yards allowed, 46th vs the pass, 109th vs the run and 95th in points allowed (30.8 ppg).

The Clemson Tigers have had a nice year so far, going 8-3 overall, which includes a perfect 6-0 mark at home and a 6-2 mark with in the ACC. The home team is 5-2 the last 7 meetings, but the Tigers are also 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game. The offense for the Tigers has been rather average this year, ranking 64th in total yards, 44th in passing, 92nd in rushing and 60th in scoring 29.6 ppg. The defense is where this team has excelled this year, ranking 1st in the nation in yards allowed, 2nd vs the pass, 7th vs the run and 8th in points allowed (17.6 ppg).

Pick: The Clemson offense was clicking earlier in the year, but since QB Watson went down they have really struggled on that side of the ball. He has gotten back on the field sparingly, but just hasn't been the same player he was before he went down and backup QB Cole Stoudt hasn't helped the offense all that much while he has been in there. The Tigers have averaged just 16.8 ppg in their last 5 games and last week they were not able to score at all in the 2nd half vs a horrible Georgia State defense. The Tigers have not needed their offense all that much as their defense has been outstanding, ranking 1st in total yards allowed and 8th in points allowed, giving up just 17.6 ppg, while at home they have allowed just 210.8 ypg and 10.8 ppg. The South Carolina offense has been strong, while their defense has been weak, but still the Tigers have not been in many high scoring games of late due to their conservative style of play and they should play that same way, which will keep the scoring in this one in the 40s.
