The Kansas Jayhawks quest for a conference win continues this afternoon when they meet No. 22 Texas Tech at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas (12:00pm ET Start Time). Unfortunately for Charlie Weis and his beleaguered team, the odds makers are anticipating a Red Raiders victory. Saturday College Football Kansas at Texas Tech Odds have the host squad listed as a -26 against the spread favorite. Today’s game total is set at 56.5 points.
After looking at Kansas 1-8 record and 0-6 mark against Big 12 opposition, one might be surprised to learn just how competitive the Jayhawks have been…at home. Weis’ crew is 1-4 in Lawrence, but its four losses came by a combined 25 points.
Sadly, the Jayhawks lose their mettle in opposing venues as they have yet to stay within 28 points against a conference foe on the road. Their best away effort, in Big 12 play that is, came last weekend when they lost 41-14 at Baylor.
Kansas offense simply does not have enough weapons to get the job done, particularly in front of a hostile crowd, which is what it will encounter this afternoon.
The Red Raiders appear to be fading a bit, though, as they enter today’s game. Tommy Tuberville’s squad is 6-3 overall and 3-3 in Big 12 action, but it has dropped its last two games, losing 55-24 at Kansas State and 31-22 to Texas in Lubbock last weekend.
While most everyone expected a loss against the Wildcats, the setback against the Longhorns was a surprise as Tech played as a 6.5 home favorite.
Despite the Red Raiders recent troubles, it is difficult to imagine them not whipping Kansas today. The Jayhawks have yet to score more than 16 points on the road in conference play while Tech is averaging 37 points per game at home (includes subpar offensive efforts against Oklahoma and Texas).
Free Pick: Take Texas Tech -26. Kansas, which has not won a conference road game since 2008, is 0-10 straight up and 3-7 against the spread in its last 10 games as a road dog in league play. The Jayhawks average margin of loss in its last seven games in said situation: 36.2 points.
Kansas at Texas Tech College Football Odds:
Kansas Jayhawks +26 (-110), Over 56.5 (-110)
Texas Tech Red Raiders -26 (-110), Under 56.5 (-110)
