San Francisco Giants 2013 World Series Odds

The San Francisco Giants won the World Series for the second time in three years last season as they swept the Detroit Tigers in the Fall Classic. The Giants are expected to be a contender again this year, but they are not the favorite to win it all. San Francisco is drawing +1000 odds ($100 wins $1000) to repeat in the latest 2013 World Series Odds and it is a second choice to win the National League West at +175 odds (Dodgers favored at -120). The Giants regular season win total is presently set at 88 games with both the Over and Under getting -115 odds ($115 wins $100).

Most of last year’s World Series winning lineup returns to San Francisco this season, but that does not mean the team is completely devoid of problems.

The pitching staff is a solid one, no doubt, with Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, and Ryan Vogelsong occupying the top three spots; however, there are concerns about the back end of the rotation. It remains to be seen if Tim Lincecum can get back on track or if Barry Zito can duplicate last year’s success.

Lincecum, after four consecutive brilliant seasons, fell off the face of the earth last year. The two-time Cy Young winner finished his 2012 campaign with a 5.18 ERA and 1.47 WHIP; his previous career highs of 4.00 and 1.28 (respectively) came in his rookie season.

Zito posted 15 wins, his most since signing with San Francisco, and a 4.15 ERA over 184.1 innings pitched in 2012. He also had an incredible postseason, giving up just three hits while striking out 13 in 16 innings pitched. His numbers as a member of the Giants would suggest he may not match those totals again.

The San Francisco lineup remains a good one with players like Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Angel Pagan, and Hunter Pence giving the team quality doses of both power and speed, but it appears, at least on paper, to be slightly weaker one than the Dodgers.
