The San Antonio Spurs will square off against the Houston Rockets tonight as both squads look to overcome some recent struggles. Tip off in this evening's rivalry tilt is set for 8:00pm ET at the Toyota Center in Houston; the game will be broadcast live on NBA TV. San Antonio owns the second best record in the Western Conference and it holds a five game lead over the Rockets in the Southwest standings; however, it comes into tonight's contest in a bit of a slump.
The Spurs lost for the third in its last five games on Sunday, falling 101-113 to the Heat in Miami. San Antonio turned in a decent enough offensive performance opposite LeBron James and company as evidenced by its 38-of-76 field goal shooting, but its defense was sorely lacking. Miami shot 58.1 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from three point range in the double digit win.
Unfortunately for the Spurs, they had similar defensive issues in their previous two meetings with the Rockets this season. Houston, which is coming off back to back losses to Memphis, topped San Antonio 112-106 at the AT&T Center on November 30th and they scored another road win over the Spurs on Christmas Day, beating its division rival 111-98.
Those two victories extended the Rockets current winning streak against the Spurs to three games. San Antonio had controlled the series prior to the Rockets recent run, though, posting a 5-1 record in its previous six meetings with Houston.
