The Toledo Rockets are taking on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl on Saturday evening. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. This will be the second bowl game for Appalachian State, the Mountaineers also played in this Camellia Bowl last season and knocked off Ohio 31-29. Toledo is making its third consecutive bowl appearance, they’ve won each of the last two in the Boca Raton Bowl last season over Temple 32-17 and two seasons ago beating Arkansas State in the GoDaddy Bowl 63-44.
This should be a classic game between teams that each won nine games. App State has gone 8-1 the last nine games of the season, the only loss coming by four points at Troy on November 12. The Mountaineers are averaging almost 33 points per game during those games and have played some pretty good defense as well, yielding just over 14 points per game during that span.
Toledo has an NFL quarterback in Logan Woodside, he’s thrown for 43 scores this season and better than 3,800 yards. The Rockets have three guys that have caught at least 745 yards through the air and another, senior tight end Michael Roberts, leads the team with 15 touchdown catches.
Toledo also has a very experienced back in Kareem Hunt, he averages 5.6 yards per carry this season and has been a problem for opposing defenses.
