Popeye's Bahamas Bowl College Betting Odds Central Michigan Chippewas vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

Central Michigan Keys to Victory

The Central Michigan Chippewas take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers today in the Popeye's Bahamas Bowl. The game is scheduled for a noon start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the College Football Betting Odds have Western Kentucky as a small favorite to win.

If you got a chance to watch Marshall in their final game of the season, you saw Western Kentucky march up and down the field like it was a practice. Look, Western Kentucky is probably not that good, which is showcased by their 7-6 record for the season, but they are RED HOT by winning four straight games and out-scoring opponents (UTEP, Army, UTSA, Marsh) by an average of 49-31.

Obviously the final game of the season pulls those averages up, but their low mark during that time was 35 points against UTEP. Brandon Doughty had a monster season (with 8 TDs against Marshall) and he has weapons with three guys catching at least 7 touchdowns. Oh, don't forget about Leon Allen, the 1,500-yard back with 12 TDs.

Central Michigan will counter with a very good back themselves in Thomas Rawls, who has 1,100 yards and 10 TDs himself. Central has a couple of solid options behind Rawls as well and will look to run the ball against WKU. Cooper Rush and the Chips don't throw the rock as an alarming rate, but they can move the football down the field well.

The Chips won five of their last seven games overall and have a better defense (IMO) than Western Kentucky. It might suffice the bettor to grab the points with the better defense and if you go that way, Central Michigan is going to have to come through with a decent game offensively as well. I think the WKU defense is going to allow the Chips to stay in this game.

Both teams will be able to score points and I don't think the total is high enough. Central's top offensive opponent this year was Toledo and the Rockets put up 42 points. WKU is ranked 13th in the country in total offense, so I think they will score. Central will too against a poor WKU defense.

Look for tons of points in this one.

Free Pick: Central Michigan 38, Western Kentucky 35
