2015 Philadelphia Eagles Season Preview Win Total Super Bowl Odds Schedule

The Philadelphia Eagles had a solid 10-6 season last year, but still they failed to make the playoffs. This year they have the pieces to make a run at the NFC Title and Vegas has their win total set at 9.5 (U -140), so if anything they do have a good shot at taking the NFC East Title. Vegas odds have the Eagles listed at +180 to win the NFC East, +1500 to win the NFC Title and +2800 to win the Superbowl. A season preview of the Eagles along with their 2015 Schedule are below.

Last year the Philadelphia offense ranked 3rd in scoring, at 29.6 ppg, while also ranking 5th in total yards (396.8 ppg), 6th in passing (272.2 ypg) and 9th in rushing (124.5 ypg). The Eagles had one of the best offenses in the league last year, but they may take a ste back this year, especially if Sam Bradford doesn't grasp this offense quickly enough. Chip Kelly is expecting him to do alright as this is an offense that he excels at. It’s an offense that requires quick throws and quick decision making and Bradford can handle that. The running game will have a new look for this team as they let LeSean McCoy bolt in free agency, but they did sign Demarco Murray, who actually may be a better overall back and could excel in this offense. He will be splitting time with Ryan Mathews and the duo will make this a very potent tandem in the backfield. The Eagles did lose Jeremy Maclin at WR, but Jordan Mathews and first round draft pick Nelson Agholor are more than capable as being the go to guys in this offense. Riley Cooper has increased his season totals for catches in each of the last 5 years, and he will split time with Josh Huff in the slot. This is a solid WR corps overall. The OL remains virtually intact and have 3 Pro Bowlers on it and it should be a solid unit once again.

Defensively the Eagles ranked 23rd in points allowed (25.0 ppg), 28th in yards allowed (375.6 ypg), 31st vs the pass (264.9 ypg) and 15th vs the run (110.7 ypg). Defense is what really hurt the eagles last year, especially vs the pass and chip Kelly looked to upgrade their by drafting 3 CBs in their first 5 picks of the draft, plus they added E.J. Biggers and Bryon Maxwell through free agency. This is now a very young secondary, but the talent is there for them to grow over the course of the season. Kiko Alonso had a stellar rookie season with the Bills at LB, but then missed all of last year due to a torn ACL. He is back this year and the Eagles are hoping for him to regain his 2013 form. He was not only a strong tackler, but he was very good in pass coverage as well. Connor Barwin is a Pro Bowler on the outside and he tied for 4th in the league in sacks with 14.5, while Brandon Graham also had a solid year on the outside. The Eagles drafted Jordan Hicks in the third round, plus added Brad Jones through free agency for depth. The DL is not spectacular, but his is very solid and is led by Vinny Curry, who had 9 sacks and 4 forced fumbles last year.

This is an Eagle team that I feel can make a run at the NFC Title, but there are still a lot of new parts that must gel, especially on offense. Chip Kelly did game on Bradford, but he fully believes that this guy can run this offense. He also took a gamble on letting Maclin and McCoy go, but he likes the additions of Murray and first round draft pick Nelson Agholor, plus his OL is very solid as well. I see the Eagles starting slow on offense, but after game 4 it should really be humming and could top last year’s 29.6 ppg that they put up. The DL returns in tack and should have solid year again, while the LB corps will be one of the best in the league. The secondary has been completely revamped and is a question mark on this defense, but they should improve on their 31st ranking in pass defense that they put up last year. Chip Kelly took a lot of chances this offense, but I feel that he made the right moves and they are clearly the team to beat in the NFC East.  I see at least 11 wins from this team and a deep run in the playoffs, especially since they will be much stronger in the second half of the year.

Pro bettor Teddy Covers thinks the best bet for an NFC win totals bet is that Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia Eagles squads will not be able to win more than nine games this season. Covers and fellow pro Steve Fezzik note that Kelly has a terrible record against losing teams, not to mention a potentially divisive locker room issues after many players, including former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, suggest Kelly is a racist. With those problems, plus questionable acquisitions in Sam Bradford and DeMarco Murray, this is likely going to be a lackluster season for this squad.
