The Orlando Magic close out what has been a brutal 2012-2013 campaign tonight and they will do so against the top seed in the Eastern Conference, the defending champion Miami Heat. Start time in this evening’s clash between the two Southeast rivals is set for 8:00pm ET. The latest NBA Odds have the hosting Heat listed as a -5.5 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 192 points.
In a season where the Magic have only won 20 games, the team’s highlight may have actually come in a loss. Orlando nearly halted what would eventually become the Heat’s 27 game winning streak at 15 games when it fell 96-97 to Miami at the AmericanAirlines Arena on March 6th.
That game served as the Heat’s second near loss to the lowly Magic as they just slipped by Orlando 110-112 in overtime at the Amway Center on New Year’s Eve.
Both squads showed their true colors the last time they hooked up, though; Miami pounded the Magic 108-94 in Orlando just over three weeks ago.
Neither team has anything on the line tonight with the Heat already holding home court advantage throughout the playoffs and the Magic having booked their ticket to postseason irrelevancy in early January. That said, tonight’s contest may mean more to Orlando.
Miami will, no doubt, rest its big three as it prepares for a grueling playoff run, leaving it shorthanded against a team that would love nothing more than to put a good whipping on its in-state and division rival.
There is not much to like about the Magic, but here’s guessing they bring it, whatever ‘it’ they have, in tonight’s finale against the Heat.
