Oklahoma State returns to action this week as it travels to Morgantown to open conference play against the West Virginia Mountaineers. The two Big 12 rivals are scheduled to take the field at 12:00pm ET on Saturday, September 28th; the game will be broadcast live on ESPN. While Oklahoma State was sitting in Stillwater resting on Saturday, West Virginia found itself on the receiving end of a 37-0 beating from Maryland.

The Mountaineers, despite the final score, actually played a respectable ball game, limiting the Terrapins to 17 first downs, 323 total yards, and a 2.5 yards per carry average, but its anemic offense could do nothing against Maryland's defense.

West Virginia finished the game with six first downs (2-for-12 on third down) and a pathetic 175 yards of offense as quarterback Ford Childress completed 11-of-22 passes for 62 yards and two interceptions.

The Mountaineers figure to turn in a better performance against Oklahoma State this weekend simply because it is difficult to be so inept in back to back games. However, it will, in all probability, need to be significantly better in order to hang with the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State had some offensive troubles in its 21-3 season opening win against Mississippi State, but it has scored 56 and 59 points in beating Texas - San Antonio and Lamar. Granted, those are two inferior defenses, but the Pokes let up early in both contests.

West Virginia's defense is playing at level closer to Mississippi State's unit, but the fact that Oklahoma State hung 443 yards and 55 points on the Mountaineers last season is not an encouraging sign for those expecting an upset or even a competitive game on Saturday.
