Saturday CFB and we will see the North Texas Mean Green traveling to Athens, Ohio to take on the Ohio Bobcats. The start time is 7:00 pm (Eastern) and the game will be televised on ESPN3. Current Odds have Ohio listed as 5 point favorites, while the total sits at 57.
Analysis: North Texas got off to a slow start last week before coasting to a 40-6 victory over Idaho in their season opener. The Mean Green are now 1-0 to start the season for just the third time since 1997. The Mean green struggled big time last year, winning just four games, while failing to put together back-to-back victories during a campaign. QB Derek Thompson is a senior and has become the Mean Green's leader. He threw for a career- high 349 yards and two touchdowns on 23-of-27 passing with zero interceptions against Idaho in the opener. His favorite target was Breland Chancellor, who had 135 yards and a touchdown on six receptions, while Brandin Byrd ran for 57 yards and two scores. Defensively, the Mean Green look to be an improved team from a season ago, and they started off well, buy holding Idaho to just six points and 369 yards.
Ohio was blasted 49-7 setback by Louisville as Teddy Bridgewater and the Cardinals amassed 615 total yards of offense to the Bobcats' 273. Ohio has still won nine of its past 11 non-conference games, including postseason play, but they have now won just 2 of their last 7 games overall. Last year they started 7-0, before injuries sent them to a 2-6 finish. The Bobcats were beat in every facet of the game last week, but they do have a much weaker opponent this week. Senior QB Tyler Tettleton went 11-of-23 for 140 yards in the lopsided loss, but has proven himself as one of the better signal callers in the MAC over the past few seasons. Tettleton has thrown a touchdown pass in every home game he has played, while also setting nine program career records, including the school standard for passing yards (6,414), completions (515) and touchdowns (46). Ohio went 5-1 at home last season and outscored its opposition, 226-133, while averaging 37.7 points per game.
Pick: I will be brief on this one, but I do like the Mean Green to keep it close. The Mean Green are an experienced team with 17 starters back and 21 of 24 lettermen back on defense. Ohio U may be a bit mad after getting blown out last week, But I still don't see it translating into an easy win for the Bobcats.
