Head Coach Larry Fedora stepped into a difficult situation, in some respects, when he took the North Carolina job last year as the program was slapped with a host of NCAA penalties due to violations dating back to the Butch Davis era. However, Fedora did inherit a talented squad and that showed on the field. The Tar Heels won eight games and they finished atop the ACC's Coastal Division standings with a 5-3 league record. The odds makers at 5Dimes are looking at somewhere in the vicinity of eight wins for the program this year, but not any more than that as North Carolina is favored at -130 odds ($130 wins $100) to win fewer than nine games. North Carolina's schedule is a favorable one in that it avoids both Clemson and Florida State; however, its most difficult games, with the exception of an October 17th clash with Miami, take place on the road. The Tar Heels must travel to Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech and they open their season at South Carolina.
