The Larry Fedora era at North Carolina got off to a nice start as the Tar Heels finished with an 8-4 overall record and a 5-3 mark in league play. North Carolina even tied for first in the Coastal Division, but its suspension resulted in Georgia Tech being the division's ACC title game representative. Despite last year's accomplishments, 2013 College Football Predictions from offshore bookmaker 5Dimes are not high on the Tar Heels chances of lassoing a division title this season. North Carolina is a fourth pick, at +395 odds, to win the Coastal Division and it is drawing +850 odds ($100 wins $850) to win the conference championship. Fedora's squad is, however, favored to win more than eight games with a -155 line ($155 wins $100) attached to the Over and a +125 line on the Under.
North Carolina's 2013 schedule features plenty of big games, but it also puts the team in a position to succeed. A 3-1 non-conference mark seems likely with South Carolina and, potentially, East Carolina, representing the only threats. The Tar Heels also have a manageable road lineup in league play with Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, and Pittsburgh being its only conference road outings.
UNC's home lineup is even more favorable as Miami, Boston College, Virginia, and Duke visit Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels opened as a Pick against the Hurricanes at the Golden Nugget, but that line is now at -2 with UNC laying the points. North Carolina is a certain favorite against the other three schools.
