NLCS Game 5 St Louis Cardinals vs Los Angeles Dodgers

Game 5 of the NLCS takes place today and we will see the Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the St Louis Cardinals at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles. First pitch is scheduled for a 8:07 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on TBS.

Current Odds

St Louis            +160
Los Angeles      -170

Over/ Under: 7 U -125

Analysis: The St Louis Cardinals are just 1 win away from their 19th trip to the World Series, after last night's 4-2 win. St. Louis has been riding it's pitching in the series, but finally got something out of Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday in the 4-2 triumph in Game 4. Carpenter and Holliday were a combined 2-for-23 in the first three games but totaled three hits and combined for three RBIs to help the Cardinals take a commanding 3-1 lead. The Cardinals will attempt to lock up the National League pennant behind Joe Kelly. Kelly was a better pitcher on the road during the regular season, going 5-1 with a 2.07 ERA in 19 games - seven starts and he pitched well in game 1 of this series, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five in six innings. St. Louis held a 3-1 lead in the NLCS over the San Francisco Giants last season before dropping three straight.

The Dodgers are getting their own solid pitching but are lacking something on offense, where Andre Ethier and Hanley Ramirez are playing through pain. Ramirez (fractured rib) went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and was in noticeable pain before being removed on Tuesday. Yasiel Puig is 9 for 15 (.600) with four RBIs in four playoff games at home after getting four hits over the last two against St. Louis. He hit .360 at home during the regular season compared to .284 on the road. Greinke surrendered a total of eight hits in 14 innings during his two postseason starts and was at his best against the Cardinals in Game 1, striking out 10 while allowing two runs on four hits in eight innings. The right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.65 ERA over his last four starts against the Cardinals.  Los Angeles suffered 4-1 losses in each of its last two trips to the NLCS (2008 and 2009) and is looking for its first trip to the World Series since 1988.

Pick: I am like the Dodgers to stave off elimination tonight. Zach Greinke has good numbers vs the Cards and should come out with a great outing today. The LA offense hasn't been great in the post season, but still has been better than that of the Cards. Look for LA to force this game back to St Louis.
