NHL Sunday Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Rangers: Odds, Start Time, Free Pick

Hi-res-160715305_crop_650x440

Pro Hockey on Sunday and we will see the Tampa Bay Lightning travel north to take on the New York Rangers. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 pm (Eastern) start time and will be televised on SunSports (Tampa) and MSG (New York). Currently the odds for the game have New York favored at -136 while Tampa Bay is dogs of +124. the total sits at 5.5U (-115) .  Check out Sportsbook Spy to see who the Public is taking on all of today's games.

Analysis:  Tampa Bay started the season by winning six of seven, but has lost its last three games. The Lightning bused in from Boston on Saturday after their game with the Bruins was postponed due to poor travel conditions created by a blizzard. Coach Guy Boucher emphasizes shooting the puck and the Lightning have passed up too many shots over the last two games, getting just 41 on goal. Tampa Bay scored 37 goals in the first seven games - and only five in the last three. Steven Stamkos has at least a point in all but one game and leads the team with seven goals and 17 points. Captain Vincent Lecavalier, who is scoreless in the last three games, has slowed down after a strong start. Martin St. Louis has collected 41 points in 42 career games against the Rangers. Matt Carle leads the Lightning defensemen with two goals and five assists. The Lightning have won five of six at home with a plus-16 goal differential and one of four on the road with a minus-1.

The New York Rangers have yet to find the form that helped them gain the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs last season. New York has allowed 12 goals in winning four of six, including a 3-2 triumph at Tampa Bay on Feb. 2. Rookie J.T. Miller was called up to add a spark and had a pair of goals in the 4-1 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday. Coach John Tortorella said there was still some sloppiness to his team’s game after the victory over the Islanders. He benched forward Brian Boyle for that game as captain Ryan Callahan returned to the lineup from a shoulder injury. Miller and recently acquired forward Darroll Powe give the Rangers a spark up front. Marian Gaborik, who leads the team with six goals, tallied against the Islanders after being held without a point for four games. Defenseman Dan Girardi, who is averaging a team-high 24:55 of playing time, has missed two straight games with an undisclosed injury. Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist, who sat out the first meeting, is 14-7-6 lifetime against the Lightning.

Free Pick: Gonna take a shot at the over in this one. Tampa Bay averages 4.0 gpg overall this year, while the Rangers knock in 3 gpg at home. Tampa Bay does score just 2.5 gpg on the road, but Lundqvist has been inconsistent at times this year and should give up a few in this one. Tampa has allowed 12 goals in their last 4 games and the Rangers can score at home. We should be able to get at least 6 goals out of these teams.
