Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals takes place tonight between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Bruins favored to close out the series at home.
The Penguins have dug themselves a huge hole in this one, trailing 3-0 and getting outplayed in every aspect of the game by the Boston Bruins. Now they face elimination for every single game that they play in the rest of this series. Boston will be looking to close this one out at home tonight, having won a double overtime matchup last game.
Pittsburgh fired and fired and fired shots at Boston goalie Tuukka Rask Wednesday night, but he was able to make 53 saves and kept the door closed long enough for Patrice Bergeron to beat Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun at 15:19 of the second overtime. What else could cause the Penguins to even want to hang around anymore? They can't decide who is going to be their goalie and their stars haven't been able to keep the team going offensively.
The last team to lose a series after going up 3-0 was the Bruins in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010. So, it has happened before and there is a connection to this series going on now, but it's hard to imagine that happening again.
Sidney Crosby, regarded as the best player on the planet, just isn't getting it done. The NHL scoring leader has no goals and no assists in the series. Evgeni Malkin isn't playing any better. If they don't show up tonight the Penguins season is going to be over tonight.
David Krejci, the leading scorer in the playoffs, has been the difference in this series for the Bruins. He has outplayed both Crosby and Malkin to this point and with the help of Brad Marchand the Bruins are poised to make a run at the Stanley Cup.
But, with all that said, it's hard to imagine the Penguins getting swept in any series. Sure, they've been outplayed the entire three games yet at this point they have no choice but to get a win tonight. We think they bring their absolute A game and get it done.
