The Washington Capitals are hosting the Philadelphia Flyers tonight in Game 2 of their NHL Playoff series. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CNBC. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Capitals listed as a massive favorite to pick up the victory.
Washington is looking to win its second straight game at home in these playoffs. The Capitals finished with an impressive record during the regular season, winning 56 games and looking like the best team in hockey for most of the season. In fact, they just might be the best team in hockey, but the Capitals have really struggled to get any type of deep run in the post season going.
This is the year Capital fans believe can be different. A 2-0 victory in the opening game saw strong play from goal tender Braden Holtby, who stopped all 19 shots he faced. The team in front of him certainly helped get Holtby the win as they peppered Steve Mason for 31 shots, the two goals proved to be plenty as the Capitals picked up the win.
Washington is a massive favorite here, listed at -200 or better nearly everywhere. That should come as no surprise as they piled up 120 points during the regular season and went 29-8-4 inside their own building. Philly was an average team at best on the road, finishing 18-17-6 away from home.
The Flyers certainly showed a lot of heart to get to the playoffs, but drawing a hungry Capital team could prove to be too much. If Philly is able to win this game tonight, they would certainly apply some strong pressure to Washington.
That’s going to be difficult as Alex Ovechkin and Caps are looking to impress again.
