Dallas really took advantage of Minnesota missing both Zach Parise and Thomas Vanek in the opener. The Stars picked up a 4-0 win and looked impressive from the opening puck drop. Dallas is looking for more of the same in this one tonight, especially in front of their home fans.
And there’s still the possibility Tyler Seguin returns to the lineup tonight to give them even more pop. Dallas was the top-scoring team in the league this season, picking up wins in 10 of the last 12 games overall. The defense proved to be strong in those wins as well, opponents scored less than two goals per game during that stretch and no team put up more than three tallies in any of those games.
Kari Lehtonen has proven to be a big commodity for the Stars. He made 22 stops in the first game of this series and the penalty kill has been impressive in front of him. Dallas has allowed just three goals on the penalty kill the last 18 games overall, spanning 54 penalties.
Minnesota’s power play has struggled itself, having not scored with the man advantage in seven consecutive games. That’s not a good sign for this one tonight.
