Two longtime rivals take to the ice tonight as the Boston Bruins travel to take on the Philadelphia Flyers. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Bruins as a road favorite.
The Boston Bruins have been playing with a heavy heart since the bombings occurred last week. Tonight they'll play the Flyers, who have already been eliminated from playoff contention. The shorter NHL year certainly helped and hurt several teams in the league that weren't able to get it going or battled injuries. Boston has been able to take advantage and currently sit in the second spot for the Eastern Conference.
Neither team has played well in their last 10 games with the Bruins going just 5-5-0 while Philly has gone 5-4-1 despite already being eliminated.
Yet, as bad as the Flyers have been this season they've actually done a pretty solid job of winning games at home. They've sported a record of 13-7-2 in games played in their home arena, but will have to avoid losing a game to one of the best road teams in the league in the Bruins, who have gone 12-8-2 in those contests.
Philadelphia leading goal scorer Jakub Voracek has three goals and two assists in his last four games. The Flyers, who now have four goalies on the active roster, will look to either Ilya Bryzgalov (who played well against the Bruins last time) or Steve Mason. Bryzgalov made 33 stops when the Flyers won against Boston 3-1 in their last meeting.
Boston's Tyler Seguin had his point streak snapped in the team's last game but he has found the net four times and added an assist in the team's last six games overall. Captain Zdeno Chara knows his team is going to the post season, but they want to add some insult to injury for the Flyers by winning this game tonight.
Tuukka Rask has been playing well in net for the Bruins and sports a goals against average less than 2.00 for the season while saving better than 92 percent of the shots that come his way. Rask will play a big role in tonight's game if he gets the start. Look for the Bruins to pick up a solid road win in this game tonight.
