Game 4 of the semifinals in the Eastern Conference Playoffs takes place tonight in the Big Apple between the Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CNBC. Currently the NHL Playoff Odds for the game have the Rangers as a slight favorite to win.
The New York Rangers are in a lot of trouble. If they are going to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals they'll have to beat the Boston Bruins four straight times after digging themselves into an 0-3 hole. This team was picked by many to reach the Stanley Cup Finals after winning the off-season in the lockout shortened year we had. Through acquisitions the Rangers built a very good team on paper. They've battled some adversity this playoffs, New York trailed Washington 2-0 in the opening round and then 3-2 before advancing.
But the Bruins didn't seem to care that the Rangers were supposed to move on. They out-hustled, out-worked and just gotten better offensive play than the Rangers in this one. Henrik Lundqvist has officially lost two more games than he has won in this post season and that's never a good thing for a goalie in the playoffs. The Bruins trailed 1-0 in Game 3 but motored back to score the final two goals and pick up the win.
Three teams all time have recovered from an 0-3 hole to win an NHL series.
The Rangers had been 3-0 at home in the playoffs and had won nine straight at Madison Square Garden, dating to the regular season. Tuesday's loss was their first in regulation in which they led going into the third period since February 2010.
New York beat the Capitals 5-0 in their Game 7 clincher for the first round. Yet since then the Rangers have scored just five goals in three games. Boston goalie Tuukka Rask and the rest of the Bruins defense has done a great job of keeping the Rangers off balanced and it's obviously frustrating to New York.
The Rangers can't win four games in tonight's contest. They have an uphill battle coming their way that only three NHL teams all time have been able to accomplish. Look for New York to win tonight's game in Madison Square Garden.
