The high flying and undefeated Atlanta Falcons are in the nation’s capitol this weekend for showdown with Robert Griffin III and the upstart Washington Redskins (1:00pm ET start time, FOX). NFL Sunday Atlanta Falcons vs Washington Redskins odds like Atlanta to keep their perfect record intact as Matt Ryan and company are a -3 against the spread road favorite. The game total in this afternoon’s NFC tilt is set at 51.5 points.
After smashing its first three foes by an average of 15.3 points per game the Falcons nearly had their wings clipped last week at the Georgia Dome. Atlanta’s NFC South rival Carolina turned in an inspired road effort against the division leaders and it would have left town with a victory were it not for a late fumble by Cam Newton. The Falcons rallied after Newton’s late miscue and kicked the go-ahead field with five seconds on the game clock to win 30-28.
Now the question becomes can Atlanta bounce back after an emotional, hard fought, narrow win? The Falcons have yet to face that circumstance this season and they will do so on the road where they have not always done their best work in recent years.
Atlanta will face a 2-2 Washington squad in a similar situation as the Redskins also needed a last second field to secure a 24-22 win over Tampa Bay. The difference, though, is RGIII and his cohorts get to play today’s game on their home turf.
This afternoon marks just the second home game of the season for the Redskins and they are, no doubt, anxious to make amends to their fans for the 38-31 stinker they produced opposite Cincinnati two weekends ago.
Washington’s defense yielded 478 total yards in that loss, despite limiting the Bengals to 93 yards on 28 carries. If they fail to get the pass defense shored up today, the Redskins had better hope Griffin and the offense find the end zone early and often.
Atlanta Falcons vs Washington Redskins NFL Sunday Odds:
Atlanta Falcons -3 (-115), Over 51.5 (-110), -155 (Moneyline)
Washington Redskins +3 (-105), Under 51.5 (-110), +135 (Moneyline)
