NFL Preseason Tennessee Titans vs New Orleans Saints

Panthers vs. Saints: Takeaways from the Saints' 31-13 Victory over Carolina

The NFL Preseason continues tonight with the Tennessee Titans taking on the New Orleans Saints. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and the odds for the game have the Saints favored at home to win.

The New Orleans Saints have Super Bowl aspirations this season, just a couple of years removed from winning it all in 2009. Obviously each team in the NFL wants to get to and win a Super Bowl, but only a select few really have the mix of talent and coaching to get there.

Both the Saints and Titans picked up victories in their opening preseason game. New Orleans picked up a win on the road in Saint Louis, 26-24. Both teams reached 22 first downs in that one and the numbers were pretty similar — the Rams out-gained the Saints 388-375. Drew Brees didn't see the field for the Saints in that one, but the backups did complete 27 of 40 passes with Ryan Griffin looking exceptionally well.

These preseason games often have decent defensive play in them and we expect some of that tonight. Clearly the Saints are one of the best offenses in the league but when teams are working on depth at this point in the season, being efficient is still important. The Saints were able to play that part against the Rams in the opener.

Tennessee scored 14 second half points to beat the Green Bay Packers last week. Both those teams ran the football well in that game, which is something the Titans want to continue tonight against the Saints. The two turnovers the offense committed didn't keep them from losing the contest but the Titans will want to be on the plus-side of tonight's turnover battle.

Expect to see Brees and Jake Locker just a bit tonight. Everyone knows about the lack of stars playing any substantial time at all in these games, but timing is important with quarterbacks and we expect both QBs to see a couple of series tonight.

In the end, we like the Saints at home.
