Former AFC West rivals Seattle and Denver are set to butt heads tonight as they meet in an exhibition battle at Sports Authority Field in Colorado (9:00pm ET start time). The game will mark Peyton Manning’s second outing in a Broncos uniform and Terrell Owens first in the Seahawks. NFL Preseason Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos Odds have the host team listed as a -1 against the spread favorite; tonight’s Over/Under is set at 38 points.
Peyton Manning’s Denver debut was not without its flaws, he did throw an interception after all, but the four-time MVP certainly showed enough to give Broncos’ fans another jolt of excitement as the regular season opener draws ever closer.
Manning, who completed 4-of-7 passes for 44 yards in last week’s 31-3 stomping of the Bears, will probably see even more action tonight as he attempts to get back to the form that made him a household name. Head Coach John Fox has said that Manning and the first team offense will play at least two series tonight and possibly a third depending on how well things go.
Seattle also had a winning preseason opener, topping the Titans 27-17 at CenturyLink Field last Saturday. The Seahawks top 10 defense held Tennessee to three first half points thanks to a pair of interceptions off of longtime Seattle signal caller Matt Hasselbeck.
The Seahawks are still undecided on a starting quarterback, but the battle between free agent signee Matt Flynn and rookie Russell Wilson only intensified after last week’s contest. Flynn, who appears to have the upper hand at this juncture, got the start; he completed 11-of-13 passes for 71 yards and one interception before giving way to Wilson. Wilson threw for 124 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while guiding mostly second and third string players.
The Seahawks also got a big effort from the well traveled Braylon Edwards in the victory. The former Michigan star caught two passes for 51 yards and one touchdown. Head Coach Pete Carroll can only hope for a similar effort tonight from the club’s other elderly wide receiver acquisition, Terrell Owens. Owens, who has drawn positive practice reviews, is scheduled to suit this evening and, potentially, see quite a few snaps.
Free Pick: Take Denver -1 in tonight’s game.
