The Houston Texans welcome in the San Francisco 49ers tonight in NFL Preseason action. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Texans favored by about a field goal to pick up the win.
The San Francisco 49ers are going to look like a completely different team this NFL season. Jim Harbaugh is back at Michigan, many guys retired or left the team and Aldon Smith was just recently booted after another arrest. How will the 49ers deal with all of the off season distractions? Jim Tomsula takes over a team that was extremely physical under Harbaugh and had annually one of the toughest defenses in football.
Tomsula had something to do with that as he was the defensive line coach for multiple seasons with the 49ers. In his career the only head coaching experience came in the 2010 season when he was the interim coach for the 49ers. It will be interesting to see how this team grows under Tomsula's leadership this season.
The Houston Texans are breaking in a new quarterback and it looks like either Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett will start tonight's game for them. Bill O'Brien said he wasn't ready to officially name a starter for the team yet, so expect a solid battle between those two for the starting nod.
We all know about J.J. Watt and the powerful Texans defensive line. They're hoping to also get Jadeveon Clowney back sometime soon and if he's healthy, the Texans can look very good up front. The defense will need to be a big positive for the Texans this season.
In this game tonight, look for a nice QB battle on the Texans side. It's tough to imagine just what type of effort the 49ers are going to bring to the table, especially with so many question marks on the roster.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
