The St. Louis Rams venture into enemy territory tomorrow afternoon as a wounded Falcons squad looks to bounce back at home from a season opening loss in New Orleans. Sunday’s meeting between the upstart Rams and the defending NFC South champion Falcons is scheduled to kick off at 1:00pm ET at the Georgia Dome; the game will be broadcast live on FOX. St. Louis is drawing +185 money line odds while the game total is set at 46.5 points.

Atlanta entered last week’s opener with the Saints as a three point road dog, but it had to feel good about its chances to upset New Orleans after jumping out to a 10-0 first quarter lead.

The Falcons could not sustain their edge nor were they able to capitalize on a wonderful red zone opportunity at the end of the game. The result: a 17-23 to their division rival.

The loss did put Atlanta in a spectacular betting situation, though. Few coach/quarterback combinations have responded to a loss like Mike Smith and Matt Ryan, particularly when they are at home off a setback.

Yes, the Rams are no longer the NFC’s weak sister as they have a number of talented pieces on both sides of the ball and a coach who knows what to do with them; however, the Falcons are simply too good in today’s situation.

Atlanta is 5-0 in its five home openers with Smith on the sidelines, defeating its opposition by an average of 13.8 points per game and the Falcons are 19-5 under Smith when coming off a straight up loss. The Falcons are also 15-0 straight up and 11-4 opposite the number when playing at the Georgia Dome off a loss with Ryan under center.

As mentioned, St. Louis has some good things going on and it was a tough out on the road last year, but why tempt fate here?
