The New York Jets will close out what has been a disappointing 2012 campaign later this afternoon when they take on AFC East rival Buffalo at Ralph Wilson Stadium. With back to back December wins over the Cardinals and Jaguars now a distant memory for the Jets, the team will limp into today’s regular season finale looking to avoid a third consecutive loss. New York followed up its aforementioned victories opposite Arizona and Jacksonville with setbacks to Tennessee and San Diego, bringing its record to an unenviable 6-9.
The Jets flagging offense has few believing they can end the season on a high note, even against a Bills team that is allowing over 28 points per game for the season.
New York has totaled just 51 points in its last four games, and it will be helmed, once again, by the ineffective and inefficient Mark Sanchez after the short lived starting stint of Greg McElroy (concussion). Perhaps the only positive in regard to that development is the fact that Sanchez turned in his best performance of the year in the Jets 48-28 thrashing of Buffalo in the season opener (266 yards, three touchdowns, one interception).
Also working in New York’s favor, though, are the Bills recent struggles. Buffalo, which owns a 5-10 record, has dropped three straight games and it has failed to tally more than 17 points in four of its last five outings.
The Jets have been something of a nemesis to the Bills as well, knocking off their division rival in eight of the last 10 meetings between the two squads. New York has also won and covered in its last four visits to Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Free Pick: Take the Jets +3.5. It is difficult to back an offensively inept team like the Jets here, but it is even harder to throw hard earned cash behind an equally putrid Bills team, especially laying -3.5 points.
