Free Analysis: Though the third game of the preseason is usually the one in which NFL teams are most apt to show their hand, expect the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns to remain rather poker-faced when they get together on Friday. The two clubs will be squaring off just 16 days before they'll be facing one another again with a lot more on the line, with the Eagles also invading Cleveland Browns Stadium for the Sept. 9 regular-season opener. Philadelphia treated Monday's Week 2 matchup at New England as its primary warm-up for the real games, with the majority of the Eagles' starters working into the third quarter of their 27-17 win. That wasn't the case for Michael Vick, however, as the notoriously brittle quarterback saw action for only six plays before exiting with a rib contusion midway through the first quarter and he isn't expected to play much at all in this one. Nick Foles will lead the Eagles' offense at the outset of this game.Foles delivered a second straight strong performance after relieving Vick against the Patriots, with the 2012 third-round draft choice amassing 217 yards and two touchdowns on 18-of-28 passing with one interception. he now has a QB Rating of 118.4 through 2 games, which is the best of any QB in the league right now. The Cleveland Browns return home after a dominant victory in Green Bay 35-10. The Browns were excited to see a much more composed performance by rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden. Weeden was a steady 12-20 with 118 yards and no td’s or picks but showed the ability to make the right read and move the browns up and down the field. He will see his most extended action in this one as he gears up for the regular season. The Browns defense looked very impressive in this one logging three interceptions and one forced fumble. Second year safety David Sims continues his strong preseason and provided the highlight of the game with a interception to the house off of Packers backup Graham Harrell. The Browns D has to be pleased with the effort considering defense leader linebacker D’Qwell Jackson has been out with a sore shoulder – he is questionable for the contest this Friday night. The Eagles have won the last two meetings, including a 24-14 verdict in Philadelphia last season, to take a 5-3 lead in their overall preseason series with the Browns.
Free Pick: Im going to go with the Browns in this one. Philly is off a Monday night game and playing on a very short week. It is unlikely that Vick will even play in this game and and Andy will not let most of his others play that long as well. Nick Foles has looked great for Philly, but this Cleveland defense is coming off a superb showing vs the Packers and could give him fits tonight. Brandon Weeden had a good showing last time out vs the Packers and behind him is Colt McCoy and I believe that also give the Browns the edge here. Cleveland is playing with momentum and getting BB wins over the Pack and Eagles would greatly add to their confidence. I'll take Cleveland at home vs an Eagles team that will not play their starters all that much.
