The Arizona Cardinals welcome in the St. Louis Rams today in NFL Football action. The game is scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have Arizona favored at home to win.
Don't look now, but the Arizona Cardinals are 7-5. If they weren't in the same division as the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers they'd be in the playoff hunt even more than they are now. But in order to get to the post season they're going to need some help. Winning games against teams like St. Louis, especially at home, can only help their cause.
Bruce Arians came over from the Colts and has done an amazing job so far with Arizona. The reigning coach of the year winner has this team playing like a lot of Arizona fans expected with the wealth of talent they have on both sides of the football. The Rams, on the other hand, are not going to the playoffs for the second straight season under Jeff Fisher.
St. Louis has covered seven of 10 division games dating back to last season. Fisher is one of the best coaches against the number himself, going 89-59 against the spread when he is the underdog. Pretty impressive.
Zac Stacy and the Ram running game has looked good of late. Expect the same thing from St. Louis in this one. Kellen Clemens is not a great passer, which has caused the Rams to go to a more run-oriented game plan. But it's worked, as they are scoring points. St. Louis has scored at least 34 points in four of their last eight games. Tavon Austin, the rookie out of West Virginia, has four TDs in his last three games overall as well.
Arizona loves getting the football to Larry Fitzgerald. It only makes sense. St. Louis has been playing pretty well on defense, allowing their last five opponents to an average of only 18.8 points per game. Can Fitzgerald catch enough passes today to get Arizona into the red zone and scoring points? Robert Quinn is fourth-best in the NFL in sacks for St. Louis. Carson Palmer should be under a lot of stress today because the Rams do like to get after the quarterback. That could tell the difference in this contest.
The Rams have won each of the last three games in this series, picking up a 27-24 win in the season opener as well. We think scooping up the points here with the Rams, who have been scoring points themselves, is a positive move.
