The Detroit Lions open the NFL season on the road Sunday, taking on the Indianapolis Colts. The game is scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the NFL Odds for the game have the Colts favored by right around a field goal in this one.

The Detroit Lions begin life without Calvin Johnson, who retired early just like former Lions great Barry Sanders. Johnson is a no-doubt Hall of Fame player and now Detroit has to find a way to replace his production.
Odds are, that won’t happen, but the Lions do have a very strong receiving corps with Golden Tate, Marvin Jones and Anquan Boldin. Matthew Stafford still loves to throw the football all over the field and the Colts were one of the worst in the league last year against the pass.
The Colts still have Andrew Luck, Indy will look for him to control the game and pick up a home win. The Lions have not been a great non-divisional team the past few seasons, going 14-23-2 over the course of four seasons.
Indy owns just one win the last six seasons in the opening weekend. With Detroit’s new receiving group being more possession-focused instead of the big-play threat with Johnson, they can take advantage of a less than stellar Colts defense.
