The NFL football season kicks off tonight with a matchup of two solid teams with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Baltimore Ravens. The game is scheduled for an 8:20 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on NBC and Peacock. Currently the NFL Odds for the contest have the Chiefs favored to pick up the victory at home.
NFL Football Odds
Kansas City -3
Total: 46.5 points
Kansas City can become the first team in the Super Bowl era to win three consecutive championships. There's little doubt the Chiefs are one of the two or three best and most talented teams in the league, but Baltimore is up there as well.
The league obviously wanted a marquee matchup on opening night, so a rematch of the AFC title game makes sense. We know Baltimore is going to want to run the football with Lamar Jackson and the newly-acquired Derrick Henry, together they pose a problem for opposing defenses. But Kansas City was solid last year defensively, ranking second in the league in yards allowed (299) and points (17.3). Having Chris Jones around for a full season will make a big deal as well and the Chiefs were strong against the run last year, allowing just 113 yards per game.
Patrick Mahomes has some new weapons, so Kansas City will look to maintain as much possession as possible. But the Chiefs are also 1-3-1 against the number their last five home openers. In the AFC title game, they took advantage of a plus-3 margin in turnovers and won as an underdog.
Awesome game early on, but will the Super Bowl hangover come into play for a second straight season for the Chiefs? Lamar and the Ravens love to run the ball and will keep this one close.
