The biggest game in college football on Saturday night will feature the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Michigan State Spartans. Currently the College Football Odds for the game have Michigan State favored by about a touchdown to win.
This is easily the biggest game in the Big Ten so far this season and could be a look-ahead to a potential conference title game. Both Nebraska and Michigan State have looked the part early on this season, despite the conference really struggling as a whole.
Michigan's State's only loss on the season came at Oregon — a game they led in the third quarter before the Ducks turned it on. Despite Oregon falling on Thursday night to Arizona, the loss is certainly one that is going to look good for Michigan State all season — it's very difficult to win inside Autzen Stadium.
Nebraska has looked very impressive on offense so far this season, averaging better than 45 points per game. The Huskers' only road game of the season was a 55-19 win over Fresno State, but they have benefitted from playing several games at home.
And the Big Red still love to run the football after all of these years. Bo Pelini's club has rolled up an average of 355 yards per game on the ground, which ranks third best in the country. Michigan State's specialty the past few seasons has been defense, so this game will be a strength against strength battle.
Ameer Abdullah is the best overall back in the Big Ten and he's building a Heisman candidacy early on with 833 yards and eight touchdowns. Abdullah averages better than seven yards per carry as well, so Michigan State will have their hands full in this one.
If Michigan State can move the football with Connor Cook, they are going to be able to establish themselves in a good position. Nebraska's defense is solid, but they haven't really been tested so far this season. They gave up 31 points to Miami a couple of weeks ago and if they don't play well tonight, Michigan State could be rolling early. So far this season the Spartans have averaged better than 50 points per game.
We like Nebraska to keep this one close, but come up just a bit short as the Spartan defense finds a way to get it done late.
