Michigan has been the darlings of the dance to this point in the tournament. Coupled with a run in the Big Ten Tournament that saw the Wolverines claim a conference tournament title, Michigan is now in the Sweet 16 and looking for the special run to continue.
Oregon has already piled up 31 wins, they are the three seed in the Midwest but are listed as an underdog in this matchup. The Ducks are playing without Chris Boucher which obviously hurts their overall chances to continue in this tournament, plus going up against D.J. Wilson and Moe Wagner in this matchup will cause some matchup problems for Oregon inside. Oregon still has powerful forwards in Jordan Bell and Dylan Ennis, but Michigan’s ability to stretch the floor with their bigs does give them an advantage.
The Zak Irvin-Derrick Walton Jr. matchup against Dillon Brooks-Tyler Dorsey are going to be special.
Michigan’s defense has really improved as the season moved along. The past month, Michigan has been on fire in allowing only 67 points a game, which includes the 91 points they surrendered to Oklahoma State in the opening round of the tournament. Michigan’s defense could be the difference here.
