NCAA Tournament Odds St Louis Billikens vs Oregon Ducks

On to the 3rd Round of the NCAA tournament and we will see the Oregon Ducks take on the St Louis Billikens. The game is scheduled for a 7:10 pm (Eastern) start time and will be televised on TBS. Currently the Odds for the game have St Louis favored by 4 points while the total sits at 123.5.

Analysis: Oregon, which entered the Big Dance in a surly mood after being labeled a 12- seed even after finishing second in the Pac-12 during the regular season and then winning the conference tournament, sent a message to the selection committee by claiming a 68-55 win over No. 5 seed Oklahoma State in the second round on Thursday, marking its 27th victory of the season (27-8) and its 13th all-time in the NCAA Tournament. It was the first tourney triumph for the Ducks since topping UNLV in the Sweet 16 back in 2007. The Ducks went 5-4 while Artis was sidelined with a foot injury during Pac-12 play. While that was a big loss for Oregon and likely cost the Ducks a regular-season conference title, it also gave junior point guard Johnathan Loyd a chance to shine. He initially struggled in the starting role, including three games in which he failed to make a field goal or register a point, but has become more comfortable of late, even with Artis back in the starting lineup. He scored a season-high 19 points in the Pac-12 tournament final against UCLA and played more minutes (25) against Oklahoma State than Artis (17). The 27 wins by the Ducks is third-most in program history.

Saint Louis continued its sensational run through the 2012-13 campaign by dismissing 13th-seeded New Mexico State in the second round on Thursday, 64-44. The 20-point margin of victory was the most for the team in its NCAA Tournament history, which now includes a 5-8 ledger, and it was the Billikens' 28th win on the season overall, which established a new single-season school record. SLU won the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament championship last weekend, and has now five straight games.  The Billkens made a trip to the Northwest back in November and lost 66-61 to Washington, a team Oregon beat twice during conference play. Two days later, coach Rick Majerus, who had been on leave since the summer because of heart problems, died. Saint Louis went on to win its next nine games and followed that with an 11-game winning streak. The Billikens knocked off a previously ranked Butler team three times this season and also swept both games against another ranked Atlantic-10 foe, Virginia Commonwealth. Saint Louis has been getting it done with defense - it is 15th in the nation in opponent scoring (57.7).

Pick: Yes the Billikens play a slow down game and hey play lockdown defense as well, but I feel that Oregon can speed this game up enough to get the Over here. St Louis isn't an extreme slow down team as they are 211th in pace and they are a very efficient offense (52nd), while scoring 68.6 ppg. A big reason for their low scoring games is the fact that their defense is so tough, but I feel that Oregon has the athletes to crack that defense. The Ducks come in 51st in pace and they score 71.6 ppg, including 69.4 ppg away from home. Defensively the Ducks are 10th in efficiency, but still allow 71.9 ppg away from home. This will not be a slow paved game. I feel hat Oregon can speed it up and score on this tough defense, while St Louis should get a good amount of points off a Ducks defense that doesn't play well away from home. I look for this one in the 130's.
