College Basketball Betting Odds Mississippi Rebels vs BYU Cougars Free Pick

Tonight the Mississippi Rebels will take on the BYU Cougars in a First Four game which will take place at University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio. The game has a start time of 9:10 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on TruTv. Current Vegas betting odds have the Cougars listed as 4 point favorites, while the total is set at 157.

Analysis: The Mississippi Rebels have not played well down the stretch as they have lost 4 of their last 5 games including a loss to South Carolina in the 2nd round of the SEC Tournament. For the year the Rebels have gone 20-12 and despite their struggles down the stretch they did do enough this year to grab a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Rebels have been to the Big Dance 7 times, with zero Final Four appearances and Zero Titles. The Rebels have been a good offensive team this year, ranking 52nd in scoring (72.6 ppg), 224th in shooting (42.6%), 203rd in 3 point shooting (33.8%) and 3rd in FT shooting (77.8%). The defense for this team has not been so good this year, ranking 200th in points allowed (67.5 ppg), 49th in defensive FG% (40.0%) and 218th in 3 point defense (34.9%).

The BYU Cougars come in having won 8 of their last 9 games, which includes a road win at Gonzaga, but their lone loss in the last 9 games was in the WCC Tournament vs those same Zags. Still the Cougars had a very nice year at 25-12, which was good enough to get the a spot in the NCAA Tournament.  BYU has been to the Big Dance 28 times, but still have yet to make it to the Final 4. The Cougars have been a very good offensive team this year, ranking 2nd in the nation in scoring (83.6 ppg), 46th shooting (46.7%), 27th in 3 point shooting (38.8%) and 5th in FT shooting (76.8%). The defense for this team has been very poor, ranking 315th in points allowed (72.6 ppg), 201st in defensive FG% (43.5%) and 100th in 3 point defense (32.8%).

Pick:  I have a hunch this one will not reach more than 155 points. We know that both teams like to run and that both teams can score, but I do see this one being a close game throughout and that means allot of walking the ball up the court the last 10 minutes or so. Ole Miss' last 5 games have averaged just 143 ppg, while BYU's last 5 have put up 153 ppg. I see this one at 150 or less.
