The Marquette Golden Eagles are taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks in NCAA Tournament action Friday night. The game is scheduled for a 9:50 p.m. start time and tie ill be televised nationally on TBS. The college basketball odds for the game have the Gamecocks listed as a small favorite to pick up the win.

South Carolina seems like they were a bit mis-seeded as a No. 7 this year. The Gamecocks won two games against the Top 25 in the RPI and just three against the Top 50, but they will be looking to hold seed in this matchup and advance to the second round.
Marquette, on the other hand, won seven games against the Top 50 in the RPI, including a 74-72 win over Villanova in January. The Golden Eagles have stumbled a bit in the last six games, going 4-2 and losing to Seton Hall in the opening round of the Big East Tournament.
In each of the last three victories for Marquette, they put up better than 90 points. The last three defeats have seen them struggle to score, putting up an average of only 69 points. Obviously if they are putting down shots they are going to be tough to beat, especially with South Carolina’s struggles to consistently put up a lot of points.
Sindarius Thornwell could make a huge difference for the Gamecocks. He missed some time earlier this season but has been an offensive machine, scoring all kinds of points.
Marquette has five guys averaging double digits in scoring. Their sharing of the wealth can make them tough to beat, but they need to be better on the defensive end.
