Kansas State and Wake Forest is probably the best of the opening games to be played in Dayton for the opening of the NCAA Tournament. We have a pair of power conference teams fighting for a spot in the tournament field which should make for some good basketball. And because it’s the way things work, this will be the first time these schools have met on the hardwoods.
Wake Forest is dancing for the first time since 2010. The Demon Deacons won 19 games this season and are led by First Team All-Conference player John Collins, a sophomore that is averaging 19 points and almost 10 rebounds per game this season. Collins has had double-doubles in six of the last seven games overall and will look to post big numbers against Kansas State.
The Wildcats are in the tournament for the third time in five seasons under Bruce Weber. While he might not be the most beloved coach in college basketball, Weber continues to get things done in Manhattan.
If the game comes down to defense, Kansas State has the edge. Offensively Collins and the Demon Deacons will look to put up a ton of points.
