The San Diego State Aztecs take on the Duke Blue Devils today in the NCAA Tournament. The game is scheduled for a 2:40 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS. Currently the College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have the Blue Devils favored by almost double digits to find a way to advance.

San Diego State plays defense and worries about scoring points later. The Aztecs have prided themselves all season under not allowing opponents to be comfortable on the offensive end, but Friday’s tournament win over St. John’s was a bit of an anomaly. 

The Aztecs, who score an average of less than 62 points per game, posted 76 against the Red Storm. Defensively they gave up 64 points as well, more than 10 points higher than the average San Diego State game. The Aztec offense is the biggest deterrent to them making a deep run, because they’re going to be able to defend Duke well.

The Blue Devils are not a great defensive team, but playing constantly against some of the best teams in the country in the ACC can cause that.  This game truly can be a difference of styles in this one — San Diego State is great defensively, Duke is great on offense. The Blue Devils have the fourth-highest scoring offense in the country at nearly 81 points a game and they rank second in offensive efficiency behind Wisconsin.

Jahlil Okafor got lit up by head coach Mike Krzyzewski after missing a reverse dunk in the opener against Robert Morris. Duke appeared on the floor to be taking the game a bit for granted, but a timeout around the 15-minute mark of the second half by Coach K straightened things out. 

The victory was the 100th in school history during the NCAA Tournament, joining Kentucky and North Carolina as the only three schools to accomplish the feat. Duke doesn’t want to head into next year’s tournament stuck on 100 wins.

In this game today, the Blue Devils should be sharp on the offensive end, but San Diego State will look to take them out of their comfort zone. Quinn Cook and company knocking down shots from the perimeter will be key against San Diego State.
