The fourth-seeded Butler Bulldogs are taking on the Winthrop Eagles in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on TNT. The college basketball odds for the game have the Bulldogs favored by double digits to pick up the win here.
College Basketball Odds
Total: 144.5 points
Butler is the fourth seed here in the South Region, Winthrop comes in seeded 13th and looking to pull the upset. The Bulldogs enter the contest having lost two consecutive games, those defeats came by way of Seton Hall and Xavier.
Winthrop won the Big South this season, they come in red hot by winning eight consecutive games. They can score points (79.7) and are led by Keon Johnson and his 22.5 points per game. They play a quick style of basketball with better than 70 possessions per game but they lack some size. So to play with bigger teams the Eagles have to control the overall pace of the game, getting out and running in transition and making Butler run.
The Bulldogs beat Villanova twice this season. They’re a team that doesn’t turn it over (10.2 per game, eighth nationally) and they will look to play a half-court style of offense here and beat up the Eagles on the interior. Butler owns nine wins the last 10 first-round games of the tournament and they’ve never been seeded this high, so the Bulldogs will be looking to prove something here.
