USC welcomes Utah State to the City of Angels on Saturday as the two schools meet in a non-conference clash at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The latest NCAA College Football Odds have Lane 'Hot Seat' Kiffin's Trojans listed as a -6.5 against the spread and -250 money line ($250 wins $100) favorite. The Aggies are drawing a +210 money line ($100 wins $210) while the Over/Under is set at 49.5 points.

Most pundits shook off the Trojans sluggish week one performance against Hawaii as a possible case of season opening jitters, but they were not afforded that excuse after losing 7-10 in their home opener against Washington State.

USC's offense managed all of 14 first downs and 193 total yards against the Cougars, causing prompting calls for Kiffin's head. Two things were lost in the setback, though.

First, Washington State was given no credit for its improvement under Mike Leach. The Cougars are viewed by many as the same team that won nine games during Paul Wulff's four seasons at the controls. Granted, Washington State is not on the verge of toppling Oregon or Stanford, but it is now a viable presence to the Pac-12 North.

The second thing to go unnoticed in the stunning loss was the performance of USC's defense. The Trojans limited the Cougars to 12 first downs and 222 total yards and they kept them out of the end zone. Washington State also rushed for just seven yards on 22 carries in the narrow win.

Those two things showed up last weekend when USC thumped Boston College 35-7. The Trojans piled up 521 yards against a quality Eagles defense and they were, again, dominant on defense, limiting BC to 184 total yards.

Utah State is a good team and its defense is capable of slowing down a USC offense that is still a work in progress; however, despite the exploits of Aggies quarterback Chuckie Keeton, Matt Wells' offense will have trouble putting points on the board against the Trojans D.

Notable Trends: The Under is 5-0 in USC's last five games as a home favorite with a spread between 4 and 7.5 points and total between 47.5 and 51 points.
